ACT! Reindex

Question:

Why does ACT! always prompt me to reindex my database when I open it?

Answer:

For your sanity! If you fail to frequently reindex, you will eventually find that you cannot locate records you know are in the database, or the record counter will read 400 of 20 (backwards) or notes will not be saved. So, kick everyone out of ACT! and reindex often-weekly at least-as follows:

1. From the File menu, select Administration, then Database Maintenance and when the dialog box appears, Reindex. The Compress option can be left off if you have not been deleting contact records.

2. You can take a peek at the Data Clean-up tab if you have something specific in mind as far as purging data.

3. Click OK. The time this take depends upon the size of your database, computer speed and connection. On a large shared database, I advise running this from where the computer is hosted.

You may shut-off or reconfigure the reminders (such as reindexing) that appear when you start ACT!. From the File menu, select Set Reminders and adjust as necessary

For complete details, please refer to your application manual.
