How To Update HD on a Novell

Question:

How do I update HelpDesk on Novell

Answer:

When updating HelpDesk (i.e. running HDUpdate), you may receive the error "The file X:\Program Files\Helpdesk 2.0\Server\Tshd32.exe could not be opened."  If so, please follow the following steps for updating HelpDesk.

1. Copy the entire Helpdesk 2.0 directory and its subdirectories to the Program Files subdirectory on a client workstation.  This should be a machine that has the HelpDesk Client installed.

2. Modify the ServerDir registry key to point to C:\Program Files\Helpdesk 2.0\Server.  Do this by clicking Start|Run.  Enter regedit in the box and click enter.  Navigate to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Resource-Dynamics\Helpdesk 2.0] key.  Double-click on ServerDir located on the right hand part of the window.  Change the drive letter to C:.

3. Run HDUpdate.

4. Copy the entire Helpdesk 2.0 directory from you local machine back to the Novell Program Files directory.

5. Change the ServerDir registry key back from C: to the mapped network drive letter of your Novell server.

You should be able to launch HelpDesk at this time.  Verify that the update has taken place by clicking on Help|About in HelpDesk.
